About this site

gen-qr-code.com is a set of free QR code tools that run entirely in your browser. There is no account to create, nothing is uploaded, and the codes you make never expire.

Why it works the way it does

Most QR code sites route your codes through their servers. That lets them count scans and change where a code points, but it also means your code stops working the day they shut down, change their pricing, or decide your free plan has expired. People have discovered this the hard way after printing thousands of menus.

This site does the opposite. Your data is encoded directly into the pattern, so the code is self-contained. It works offline, it works forever, and it works even if this website disappears tomorrow. Nothing points through us because there is nothing to point through.

The trade-off is honest and worth understanding: a code made here cannot be edited after you print it. If you need to change a destination later, encode a link to a page you control and change that page instead. Our guide on static and dynamic codes explains when each approach makes sense.

Nothing you type reaches us

The QR encoder is written in JavaScript and runs on your device. WiFi passwords, contact details, payment addresses — none of it is transmitted anywhere. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the generators keep working, which is the simplest way to prove the claim to yourself.

This is also why we cannot recover a code for you later. There is no record that you were ever here. Our privacy policy sets out the little we do collect.

Who runs it

The site is built and maintained independently, and paid for personally. There is no company, no investors, and no advertising. Running costs stay low because the site is static and the work happens in your browser rather than on a server we rent.

We take no sponsorship and use no affiliate links, which our disclosure page covers in full.

How it is built

Everything is served from this domain: no external fonts, no analytics scripts, no tag managers, no third-party requests of any kind. That keeps the pages fast, keeps your visit private, and means there is nobody else to trust.

The QR encoder was written from scratch rather than pulled from a library, so we can be specific about what it does: byte mode, versions 1 to 20, all four error correction levels, and an explicit UTF-8 declaration so accented and non-Latin text does not arrive mangled on the scanning device.
